Asalamalakim… Whoops – wrong blog! Well actually it would work here as it is just Arabic for “Peace to You”. However I’d rather say “Grace and Peace unto you in the name of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus – To Him be all Glory in heaven and earth!” Where do I begin? I am a Retail Manager by profession and an Evangelist by calling. I currently attend Free Grace Baptist Church in Yuba City, CA.
I have been married for almost 13 years have a beautiful wife (Natalie), that I don’t deserve, three wonderful children – Paul Jr. (14) Thea (13) and Dominique (11), a Pit Bull named Baxter (11) and my “wife” has a Malti-Po named Kona (1 yr). It is such a great blessing to have a Christian family that I can’t even express it in words. (Okay, by now you’ve probably done the math so get over it you Pharisee!)
I have no formal Theological training but consider myself a Jr. Theologian; if there really is such a thing? I do have a strong desire to obtain formal education and enter the ministry full time – God willing, but as for now I have this blog! I love to share my testimony but my conversion story is rather muddied. You see I walked an aisle back in 1980 (9 yrs. old) at “Free Will” Baptist Church in Petaluma, California. It was one Easter Sunday and the Pastor did however preach that I was a sinner who needed to repent. I went home weeping that afternoon and was sorry for my sin before God. Then came the snare of drugs, it was that same year that I had my first “experiment” – I guess you could say I was a scientist because that little experiment lasted for over 12 years! As Ray Comfort would say, “All the while I knew the Lord”… I grew up in church, I knew all the right answers and always wore my Sunday best but I was full of “dead men’s bones!” (Mat 23:27)
My uncle got saved and was interim Pastor of a COGIC church plant so I soon left the FWBC and attended with him and my aunt. I headed into my late teen years and left the church as my sinful lifestyle was no longer concealable. I can still hear the old saints, “Boy you better stop running from God”. “He won’t strive with you forever”. “I’m praying that the Lord put a hook in yo’ mouth and drag you back into the church!” “You need to get saved!” – WHAT!!! Me “get saved”? I know God, I still read my Bible when I’m sad, I still have 3 orange Gideon NT’s that I picked up off the ground in JR High when the other kids were tearing them up and throwing them all over campus, not to mention that memorable Easter Service when I was 9 years old! I now believe today that I was an offence to a Sovereign and Holy God that was graciously drawing me out with bands of love. I thank God for those saints who were not afraid to confront my sin!
It wasn’t until one evening at age 22 that I had what I call my “Damascus Road” experience, I was kicked and partially blinded in one eye during a drug deal gone bad (but that’s a story in and of itself). I finally feel it was then that I truly responded to the Gospel. I knew then that God was “not striving with me”. (Gen 6:3) Unlike Pharaoh my heart was softened and God overcame my resistance to His Grace. Somewhere in the time from 90-95 – 2 parents had passed, I had a new born daughter and 1 yr old – out of wedlock, and was virtually shipwrecked. Little did I know it was all part of God’s “Wonderful Plan” for my life. I will never cease to be amazed by God’s providence – He is perfect in all His ways! (Psa 18:30) You see, I was forgiven so much that it always causes me even to this day to love Him more and more. (Luk 7:47) One night while making my first trek through 1st Peter after truly being regenerated I read these words “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father” (1 Pet 1:1-2) I thought to myself, “I’m God’s Elect” He chose me… I fell to my knees and wept before my King! How unworthy I was to receive such Grace. “Why me?” is still a mystery that Scripture conceals but I know that it was nothing He saw in me. It was truly “ALL OF GRACE” I would say that this was the birth of a Calvinist (Oops – are we allowed to use that word around here?).
I spent many years not understanding Reformed Theology as I do today but did clearly see the doctrines of Grace as revealed in Scripture. Yes, I admit it, like many the “L” was my hardest point to come to a clear understanding of. It is hard to shake so many presuppositions that you have heard for years. I have always been vocal about my own faith but rarely shared because I was too “controversial” as my wife used to say. However about three years ago a dear friend of mine introduced me to this awkward ministry by Kirk Cameron and some other guy. It was like a breath of fresh air – I had been choking on this modern gospel for so long I thought I was going to die. I had become disenchanted with the 4 Spiritual “f-Laws” and then It was revealed to me; a way to be “controversial” with a smile! I could love them enough to confront them (like the old saints God used in my life). I had been set free all over again!
Today my primary ministry is on the streets and college campuses preaching the everlasting Gospel of Jesus Christ. For those of you that have known me for some time you have watched, what I call, “the evolution of a street preacher.” If think this is something that all street evangelists go through at one point or another. My Theology and Evangelism have finally found a happy medium… It has been a long and bumpy road but by the Grace of God, Christ and His truth has truly “Reformed The Evangelist”…
So there you have it I’m a Reformed Black Evangelist! That’s gotta make the devil mad!!! Who said God doesn’t have a sense of humor???

Brother,
It’s so encouraging to read of the Lord’s wonderful grace in your life! I praise Him for plucking you from the fire and setting you ablaze with the flames of Heaven! May He be pleased to bear unusually abundant fruit from the evangelistic labors He has prepared for you!
Grace and peace
I pray you find the courage to actually confront people with the gospel ( the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Christ) to see souls saved and bear fruit as is instructed in the bible rather than beat the law into their heads, make them verbally confess to being a sinner and then give them no way to get saved but rather telling them to do it later on their own because you don’t even have the boldness to pray for them once you get the sinner to confess.
We ought to be courageous Christians, not cowardly Christians Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameon are teaching you and others trying to produce on a large scale.
I will pray for all who rely on the law like the Pharisees to burden the lost, instead of preaching the gospel ( which the law is not ) like yourself and other Kirk follwers do.
As the bible say, it is the goodness of God that leads to repentance, and that everyman know God because it is written on their hearts.
We’re praying for you that you actually have boldness for the gospel instead of taking the way way out.

Stay strong and represent the brothers for Christ. Too many of them just don’t know real men know the real Jesus. God bless and kiss the wife and children.
To Jason,
After reading your statement, I need a bit of assistance here.
I am a bit confused by your message, can you please be more clear, or develop with details in what you exactly meant? Why do you say:
“I will pray for all who rely on the law like the Pharisees to burden the lost, instead of preaching the gospel ( which the law is not ) like yourself and other Kirk follwers do.”
What do you mean “by rely on the law”? Who is relying on the law? Don´t we rely on Christ alone? And what do you mean “to burden the lost” specifically? I understand that unbelievers are not called to follow the works of the law, for nobody can be saved by following it, but rather, to repent and believe in the Gospel, and the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. And we know that this is by the sovereign Grace that God offers freely to His elects that were elected before the foundation of the world.
And you also comented:
“As the bible say, it is the goodness of God that leads to repentance, and that everyman know God because it is written on their hearts.”
My question is this, if they know God, as it is written, how do you show them that they have sinned against the Lord without showing them the law first? Is it not by the law that we can see (by His Holy Spirit conviction) that we have sinned against a Holy God?
And, my last question to you, what do you think on what Spurgeon preached, or John Calvin? Do you agree with their teachings or not?
In His grace.
I second Joao’s comments. Jason, you need to read Psalm 19:7, Gal 3:24, Rom 7:7, Read Romans Chpts 1-3. Then read Romans Ch. 9 and Ephs Ch.1 and 2 for the Calvinist information.
The “burden” of the law drives men to Christ. Man does not even know he is a sinner and without the law he never will.
“Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.” Galatians 3:24. The law just shows how much in bondage to sin we really are. We aren’t “good people”.
I love you Man, the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ truly dwell in you! It was so good to see you at XE – 07! I look forward to seeing you again. I marvel at the work that God is doing in your life!
Paul, you are truely a blessing. A true Man Of God, and the fire in heart for god flows like a mighty river. Having the oppurtunity to meet you and spend some time was absolutly a God send. You are someone i call freind and Brother in Christ. Love ya Brother, you are in my prayers.
Hey brother,
I appreciate your ministry and website. Keep up the good work! You are a blessing and an encouragement to all of us. Thanks for coming up to Grants Pass to join us for a good weekend of evangelism. I am headed to San Francisco on Monday for four days of street ministry, etc. Keep us in your prayers. God bless.

(I guess they call me “the machine” although I don’t know if I deserve the name. I just hope that I never breakdown and that my batteries will run for another 60 years or so.)
Paul,
I liked your recent article on Darwin Fish and his “A True Church”. Al Soto [NoDeceit] even posted a reply to it indicating that you upset him. A few extra items on Darwin Fish and Al Soto’s recent activities. Four of Al Soto’s videos promoting the “A True Church” website have been posted on YouTube and links to these YouTube videos have been posted all over the internet as an ad for their website. The YouTube videos were posted by Al Soto [nodeceit] and can be found on YouTube by a search using the word: “nodeceit”. Darwin Fish has come out with two additional books to sell which promote the “A True Church” website too. The “Not Taught!” by Darwin Fish book is listed on both Amazon USA and Amazon Canada with only one personal review so far which references Phil Johnson’s Darwin Fish FAQ. Al Soto appears to be using conservative political discussions boards lately to promote the “A True Church” website.
Keep up the great work,
Ron

Hey there. I maintain two different blogs, one for myself at http://www.gospelcentermusings.com and another one in which I wanted to talk to you about at http://www.heritagebooktalk.org
I am not sure if you have ever heard of Reformation Heritage Book or not, you can check that out at http://www.hearitagebooks.org
Anyways we are starting a blog, of author interviews, book reviews, book news, new and upcoming publications, anything with books from our publications to others as well.
Now where you can help us is in three areas.
#1 if you read, or ever do read, write a 250-1000 word review of any book of reformed, reformation, or puritan works, and we would love to post it mention you, your blog, and your thoughts over the work/book.
#2 if you could blog maybe once about us, or add us to your links on your blog to further our ministry of the work that the Gospel is doing today, namely on the World Wide Web!
#3 say a prayer at least once for us, after you read this, for our ministry at RHB and getting out good reformed literature to the saints of Christ!
Thanks for your time and please let me know your thoughts on these things, in helping us at RHB, thanks! Thanks! Thanks!

Hi sir. um i believe what your doing is great! It seems that your son must been an amazing young and handsome man! He must be wise, intelligent, smart, handsome, joyful, and down right amazing. If i were you i would buy him a playstation three and an xbox 360. Thats just my opinion.
May the lord bless you!
Surely this Not Paul Jr makes a wonderful observation. I can only imagine what it must be like to be in the presence of such sheer intelligence, wisdom and humility I would that only I could find companions as such. This “boy” should be indulged in EVERY earthly desire and so too should the sisters they must be worthy of all fine linens and such. Why I believe a Coach handbag may be a good start and also perhaps let them plan some type of year end party/bash for their friends! And while we’re at it why don’t you allow them to watch Harry Potter movies and such.
May the Lord Bless your decisions! Looks like you need to get your house in order….hmmmmmmm
Not Paul and Natalie’s Friend,
.
Your comments are well received but it sounds as if you are judging me. I am all for judging righteous judgments but one must first remove the plank out of their own eye so they can see clearly.
.
One must first not be a usurper and allow their husband to lead (even if it makes then uncomfortable) or a coveter of fine linens sold at discount prices on Ebay and Craig’s list, causing one to have a false security in their stewardship.
.
Let us not speak of indulging miricle children to the point of mocking those that purchase the lesser linens for him at a discount department store.
.
As for the Harry Potter movies as explained before they are used strictly for discerment training under the close supervision of a theologically and doctrinally sound priest in the home…
.
Too your Bible “Not Friend”! Remove the plank out of your own eye! Judge Not, Lest Ye Be Judged!
.
In Christian Love….
Hello Paul,
I am glad to have found your blog. I am enjoying it.
Have you heard the preaching of Thabiti Anyabwile? I have only heard him speak once in a downloaded MP3 from the “Together for the Gospel” Conference, but I would like to hear more. If you can find any of his sermons in the internet, I think you and your blog readers would enjoy hearing him.
Valeria
Valeria, You can find Thabiti’s sermons at his church’s website: First Baptist Church of Grand Cayman.
After seeing the website and the photos of the church and location, I think I would rather go and hear Thabiti in person. Do you know if he has a guest room???
